I compiled this academic outcomes report card because while U.S. News & World Report publishes strong school rankings, the underlying data is scattered across individual school pages. There isn’t an easy way to compare the component pieces of their scores—Math, Reading, and Science test proficiency, AP/IB participation and pass rates, and graduation rates. This table pulls those pieces together into one place so meaningful comparisons can actually be made.
The rankings focus only on academic outcomes. They do not include surveys, reputation, extracurriculars, facilities, or “quality of life” factors. The goal here is clarity: isolating measurable academic performance to better understand how Central New York high schools compare on results alone.
At the top, Fayetteville-Manlius and Skaneateles clearly separate themselves, with U.S. News scores above 95, exceptionally high math and reading proficiency, strong science outcomes, and graduation rates in the mid-90s. Cazenovia and Jamesville-DeWitt follow closely, showing consistently strong performance across subjects and solid advanced coursework participation.
Districts like Westhill and West Genesee land in the upper-middle tier. Graduation rates remain high, but test proficiency and AP/IB participation trail the very top performers—highlighting an important distinction between graduating students and academically preparing them at the highest level.
This table is not a judgment of school communities, teachers, or students. Context matters. Resources, demographics, leadership, and mission all play a role. The purpose of this exercise is simply to make the data more transparent, comparable, and usable for families, educators, and anyone trying to understand academic outcomes in Central New York.
